What is an IME (Independent Medical Exam)?

An IME is a medical evaluation that provides an objective and comprehensive medical opinion concerning medical and legal issues. No doctor patient relationship exists. An IME includes a complete review of records, patient history and physical examination in order to address specific questions posed by the requester.

How do I know which physician to use?

If you have not selected a physician, members of our customer service team will be more than happy to acquaint you with physicians in our provider network for the specialty you require. Our providers are selected based on experience, knowledge, reputation, and expertise.

What is your policy for no show’s and cancellations on IME’s?

Because we have providers in different specialties and various locations,
fees and cancellation policies vary slightly. For more information please

How long does it take to receive an IME report?

Our goal is to submit a final report within five business days of the date of the IME. Reports can be delivered via standard mail, email, fax, or in person.

Does Medical Assurance Group provides records copying / pickup as a service?

Yes. As part of our standard service, one of our Account Executives will visit your office to retrieve records, deliver reports, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Do I need to organize medical records or pertinent information for the physician?

Our staff will sort the material provided in chronological order and in a manner that the specific provider desires.

Where should I send medical records and other pertinent documents for the physician to review?

All documents and correspondence should be sent to Medical Assurance Group office location servicing your request.

Who reviews the physician’s report?

MAG’s Quality Assurance team reviews all reports to ensure that our clients’ specific questions have been addressed. If you wish to discuss a specific report, please contact your local MAG office.

What if I want to join the MAG team?

How do I obtain previous diagnostic testing results or x-rays that the physician may require for the IME?

If the patient is not able to bring these records to their IME, he / she can sign an authorization form for us to acquire the necessary records. We will request all diagnostic film be delivered to the appropriate provider.

Are MAG’s physicians in active private practice?

Better than 92% of physicians in our provider network have an active private practice. If this is a criterion for your scheduling, please advise us at the time of the scheduling.

What lines of insurance does Medical Assurance Group provide IME services?

We schedule IME services for workers’ compensation, auto/liability, general liability, and short/long term disability.
